Calissons are traditional diamond shaped French candies consisting of a smooth, pale yellow, homogeneous paste of candied melon and ground almonds topped with a thin layer of white icing (royal glaze). Calissons have a texture not unlike that of marzipan, but with a fruitier, distinctly melon-like flavor.

Calissons have been traditionally associated with the town of Aix-en-Provence, in the south of France, for more than 6 centuries!

Manufactured according to time-honored tradition by Confiserie du Roy Rene, these calissons contain nothing but the highest-quality almonds. The 260g box contains 20 calissons.

Whether calissons were indeed invented by a lovestruck cook on the occasion of the wedding of Jeanne de Laval to King Rene of Anjou in 1473 is a matter of endless speculation.
