Ferdinand Hediard was not even 13 when he announced his parents that he wanted to enroll as a "Compagnon du Tour de France" (a French organization of craftsmen and artisans dating from the Middle Ages, but still active today). In 1850, Hediard opened his first shop, the "Comptoir d'Epices et des Colonies" (Colonial Spice Company), which he relocated in 1854 to a small but busy square in Paris, the now internationally renowned "Place de la Madeleine".
Many celebrities could be seen shopping at Hediard, a melting pot of Maharajahs, Kings, Princes and Hollywood stars. The flagship store and restaurant are still on "Place de la Madeleine".
This "Hediard blend" is a subtle blend of coffees from Brazil and east Africa. This full bodied dark roast boasts a fine aromatic quality, unusual for such an intense body. It is dense and aromatic with a note of candied fruits. This great specialty coffee is already ground and comes in a beautiful black tin.
